Two years ago, the NYC Climate Justice Hub, a partnership between the NYC Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) and CUNY, brought together community practitioners and academics to create six Research Teams. The Hub leveraged the vast and diverse CUNY network to connect mission-minded faculty and students in the CUNY system to each of the six participating NYC-EJA member organizations: The Point CDC, Nos Quedamos, GOLES, The Brotherhood Sister Sol, El Puente, and UPROSE.
Each of the six Research Teams consists of staff from NYC-EJA member organizations (a Hub Advocate) and CUNY faculty and students. Additional Research Teams support NYC-EJA and its city- and statewide-level campaigns and initiatives, including the Community Heat and Air Monitoring Project for Environmental Justice (CHAMP-EJ).
Through the Research Teams initiative, NYC-EJA member organizations set the goals and priorities while academics provide technical assistance and consultation. Unlike traditional university-community partnerships, the Hub’s research collaborations are “rooted in community,” the theme of this year’s Showcase on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at the CUNY Graduate Center. During this full-day event, all of the participants will come together to share the successes of their work. It will be a day filled with insightful conversations, inspiring projects, and valuable lessons about what is possible when communities lead the charge in climate justice research and advocacy.
The Showcase will feature interactive presentations from all the Research Teams, with opportunities for networking. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. You can learn more about the Research Teams and their projects by visiting our Research Teams page and clicking “Learn More.”
